Funeral services were held at the First Reformed Church Monday afternoon for Gerrit Van Riessen, 66, who passed away very suddenly last week, Friday evening after suffering a heart attack. He was mowing the lawn when the illness struck him.

Reverend Marion Klaaren officiated at the services and arrangements were made by the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home.

Gerrit met Alice Vos when they were both working for the Fred Kuhl family. They were joined in marriage on November 30, 1926. The couple continued to work for different families until they moved to Sioux Center and Gerrit took a job as a cream hauler for the creamery. The couple was blessed with two sons, Art and John. Gerrit passed away from a heart attack in July of 1959.

Survivors include the widow and two sons, Art and John nd four grandchildren. Also surviving are nine brothers and sisters, who all live in the Netherlands.
