William Van Roekel was born to Geurt Van Roekel and Jennie Pothoven.

William married Minnie Van Roekel (his second cousin). They both traveled to America together as children with their parents.

William and Minnie are the parents of Marie Van Roekel-Van Houten and John Van Roekel.

Van Roekel Rites Held Saturday

Funeral services for William Van Roekel, 67, who died Wednesday, September 10, were held at the Frazier Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and at 3 p. m. in the Methodist Church. Reverend. B. Roy Brown officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Van Roekel was born in Holland December 11, 1884, coming to America with his parents at the age of seven. Since coming to America he lived in Sioux County and for the past five years lived in Hawarden.

He is survived by the widow, Minnie; one adopted daughter, Mrs. Marie Van Houten of Balaton, Minnesota; an adopted son, John of Valley Springs, South Dakota; six brothers, Bert of Alvord, Iowa, Geurt of Pocahontas, Iowa, Henry of Corsica, South Dkota, Gerrit and Bernie of Worthington, Minnesota, Albert of Los Angeles, California; two sisters, Mrs. Leonard Vos of Worthington, Minnesota, and Mrs. Anna Top of Spokane, Washington and five grandchildren.
