On last Wednesday at two o'clock in the afternoon at a hospital in Sheldon, there occurred the death of Mr. Abraham Van Roekel, well known to the people in this community.

About three weeks ago he developed a serious case of pus poisoning caused by appendicitis and on the following Saturday submitted to an operation. His condition was considered critical from the first but early last week he was reported to be improving and his relatives and friends had hopes of his recovery.

He was united in marriage in 1876 to Nennetje "Nancy" Vande Krol in Pella. In 1883 the family moved to Sioux County, where Abraham died on January 24, 1917.

Her surviving children are Mrs. D. J. Fransen, in Ashton; John, in Boyden; Gerrit, in Sioux Center; George, in Sioux Center; Anton, in Orange City; Mrs. J. Van Engen, in Archer; Mrs. H. C. Langstraat, in Newkirk; Willem, in Sioux Center; Hendrik, in Boyden; Bert in Sheldon; Mrs. Harry Rensink in Boyden.

Mr. Van Roekel had just completed a modern new home here, and as we understand it, was speaking about it just a few minutes before death came.

The funeral services were held Saturday at the Reformed church in Sheldon, Reverend Vander Naaid officiating. Interment was made in the Boyden Cemetery.
