Alton Democrat of Jul 13, 1918 carried the obit but it was very faint.
Mathias Schroeder aged 30 years died Wednesday morning at his mother’s home Mrs. M. Schroeder in Alton. The funeral was held this Friday morning from St. Mary’s church. The young man suffered for many years from a weak heart and July 5 was compelled to take in his bed from weak ness sinking rapidly from then on. His many friends were shocking to learn of his death on Wednesday and the funeral was very largely attended. Nick Schroeder of McClusky ND, Mrs. Nic Nemmers of Bird Island MN, and Mrs. Frank Homan of North Dakota were expected to arrive for the funeral. The young man was well liked by all who knew him and will be keenly missed from the life of the community.
