Wilma Joyce Franken, age 76, of Luverne, died Thursday, September 23, 2004, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born July 11, 1928, in Sioux Center, IA, to William and Enrietta (Kneubel) Vande Kieft. She graduated from Sioux Center High School.

Wilma married Howard Franken on August 4, 1948, at the First Christian Reformed church in Sioux Center, IA. After their marriage, the couple farmed northeast of Sioux Center. In 1951, they moved to the farm southwest of Luverne.

She was a charter member of the American Reformed church, in Luverne, where she was one of the first organists playing for thirty years. Wilma was also a Sunday School Teacher for thirty years; the Ladies Aid; the Extension Club; the Sewing Club; and the Luverne VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, hand work, flower gardening, cooking, her great grandchildren and family weekends at the lake in the summer at Round Lake.

Wilma is survived by her husband, Howard Franken, Luverne; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl & Gene Edstrom, Luverne;two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry & Pam Franken, Luverne; and Bryon & Kristi Franken, Luverne; nine grandchildren, Tammy Franken; Amy Hollander, and friend Travis; Becky Hollander, and friend Andy; Travis Franken, and wife, Kairie; Matthew Franken; Carissa Franken, & finacee, Jason; Abbey Franken, & fiancee, Ryan; Eric Edstrom, & friend, Monica; and Serena Franken; four great grandchildren, Zachory & Riley Hollander, Hailey Franken & Marshal Dammann; brother, Howard (Gwen) Vande Kieft, Lynden, WA; and two sisters, Vivian Vander Veen, Lynden, WA; and Shirley (Paul) Van Zanten, Lynden, WA.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral was held Monday, September 27, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the American Reformed Church, Luverne, MN with Rev. David Sikkema officiating. Interment was in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Luverne, Minnesota.
