Mrs. Nellie Van Oort, age 93, formerly of Matlock, Hospers, and Sheldon, passed away Tuesday, May 20, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 31, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. The Reverend Gary Rozeboom will officiate. Interment was at the Greenwood Cemetery, near Matlock under the direction of The Vander Ploeg Funeral Home of Sheldon.

Nellie was born April 25, 1904, at Hospers, the daughter of Schalk and Dora (Van Kley) Van Iperen.

On July 21, 1922, she married Henry Van Oort in Lyon County. They farmed at Matlock. He passed away May 21, 1962, in Sioux City.

On August 31, 1963, she married Wayne Van Oort at Matlock. They also farmed at Matlock. He passed away January 23, 1979, at Matlock.

Mrs. Van Oort continued to live on her farm until 1985, when she moved to Hospers. She later became a resident of the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon, Six months ago, she transferred to the Heritage House.

She was a member of the Matlock Reformed Church until its closing and now was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon.

Survivors include six children and their spouses, Jean and Josephine Van Oort, of Denver, Colorado; the Reverend Sylvester and Lily Van Oort, of Sheldon; Daloris and Henry Rensink, of Hospers; Dena and Edward Kuiper, of Sheldon; the Reverend Glenn and Eileen Van Oort, of Castleton, New York; and Lois and Robert Falk, of Rochester, Minnesota; a daughter-in-law, Jo Ellen Van Oort, of Teanech, New Jersey; 24 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Gert Harmelink, of Sanborn; and Anne Jiskoot and Dorothy Byker, both of Orange City; and two brothers, Henry Van Iperen, of Turin; and Burton Van Iperen, of Hartley.

In addition to her husbands, she was proceeded in death by a son, the Reverend Harold Van Oort, on June 26, 1973; three brothers, Peter, Oren, and Steven; and a sister, Jennie. Memorials may be directed to "Words of Hope" Ministries.
