Dick Van Maanen Funeral Services Held On Tuesday

The burial service for Mr. Dick Van Maanen, Rock Valley resident, was held here Tuesday at the Valley View Cemetery with Reverend Dr. H. Kuiper officiating at the graveside service. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. at the home and 1:30 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church.

Mr. Van Maanen died April 16, at 11:15 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Le Mars of a heart ailment.

Dick Van Maanen was born in Gelderland, Netherlands, December 5, 1881. He came to America in 1892. He resided two years near Orange City, 17 years near Sioux Center, 35 years on a farm near Rock Valley and the last two years of his life were spent in the town of Rock Valley.

He was married March 1, 1906 to Gertrude Brunsting and to this union one daughter was born: Gertrude (Mrs. Bert Van't Hul) of near Rock Valley. His wife preceded him in death on September 24, 1907.

He was remarried on February 23, 1910 to Dena Vrymoet who survives. To this union five children were born, all surviving: Gerrit, John, Henry, Dick and Henrietta (Mrs. John Kempema) and seventeen grandchildren all living near Rock Valley. His step-parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert De Leeuw, four brothers and seven sisters also survive.
