Berwyn Van Otterloo, 65, of Doon, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Avera Heart Hospital, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral Service held Saturday at United Reformed Church, Doon with burial at Hillside Cemetery.

Berwyn Dean Van Otterloo was born July 8, 1943 at Hudson, South Dakota, son of Peter and Magdalena (Noble) Van Otterloo. He graduated from Western Christian High School in 1961.

Berwyn married Luretta Van Marel on August 27, 1965 at Steen, Minnesota. Together they farmed for 40 years south of Rock Rapids, Iowa until retiring and moving into Doon in November of 2008.

Berwyn enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting and bowling; watching the Minnesota Twins and Western Christian softball and basketball; and riding 4-wheelers checking the cows.

Most important to Berwyn was his family and knowing God's word.

Berwyn is survived by his wife, Luretta; son, Craig (Susan) Van Otterloo and children: Amber, Colton, Hannah and Cassie of Rock Rapids, Iowa; daughters: Jodi (Michael) DeWitt and children: Kirin, Hailey, Alison and Caleb of Lincoln, Nebraska, Julie (Jeff) Foley and children: Skyler, Madison and Mackenzie of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, Crystal (Douglas) Klarenbeek and children: Cody, Drew, Jordan and Chloe of Inwood, Iowa; brothers: Harvey (Joanne) Van Otterloo of Rock Valley, Art (Margaret) Van Otterloo of Hull, Iowa and Dennis (Nelva) Van Otterloo of Edgerton, Minnesota; sisters: Jeanette Van Engen of Doon, Viola Van Otterloo of Denver, Colorado and Laurie (Vernon) Koedam of Alvord, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Magdalena; granddaughter, Emily DeWitt; brother-in-law, Harlan Van Engen.
