DEATH STRIKES ALTON FAMILY THIRD TIME--PETER VAN lAAR, 43, DIES--ILL ONLY A WEEK

Peter Van Laar, son of Gerrit Van Laar and life-long resident of Alton, passed on at his home here Monday night at eleven o'clock after a week's illness.

Peter was born in Alton 43 years ago on June first and died the day after his birthday. He attended the Alton School and was gifted in hand and craft work. He did sign painting for many years and assisted his father in mason work. While working with his father recently on a job at the Rendering works, in some way he was caught behind a truck and three ribs were broken. Pleurisy and pneumonia developed. His death after the brief illness was a sad shock to his family and many friends.

He is survived by his father and an only sister, Mrs. Nick Marra, who have the sincere sympathy of the community, this being the third bereavement in a period of fifteen months. In March last year, the wife and brother, Mrs. Van Laar, nee Susan (Den Beste) passed on after a long illness, and in July, 1940, the elder son, Fred Van Laar Jr. died after a long continued illness. Peter was devoted to his home, his father's able assistant and companion.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2:00 o'clock at the Presbyterian Church in charge of Reverend S. A. Munneke. Nick Marra, who has been employed at Waterloo for five weeks, arrived home Wednesday morning, called here by the death of his brother-in-law.
