FORMER HAWARDEN MAYOR DIES

Lloyd Richard Ball, 56, of Hawarden died Tuesday, November 24, in the Hawarden Hospital after a long illness.

Services were at Associated Church in Hawarden Friday with the Reverend Fredrich Mellberg officiating.

Ball was born February 12, 1931, in Hawarden High School in 1949 and received a bachelor of arts degree from the State University of Iowa in 1953. He received a JD degree from the University of Nebraska in 1956 and was admitted to the Iowa Bar the same year. He served as a first lieutenant in the Air Force from 1956 to 1958, and opened a law practice in Hawarden in 1958. He served as mayor of Hawarden from 1960 to 1962 and had also served as city attorney.

Lloyd Ball was a member of the Sioux County and Iowa State Bar Associations, Delta Tau Delta and Delta Theta Phi Fraternities, Capital Hill Club, American Legion and Sioux City Consistory. He was an active member of the Associated Church and served many years on various church boards. He was a member and past master of Dale Lodge 456 AF&AM of Hawarden and past president of the Hawarden Rotary Club. He was listed in Who’s Who in the Midwest, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry and Dictionary of International Biography.

Survivors include his mother, Helen (Wells) Ball, of Hawarden.
