Died: August 14, 1980Funeral services for Elizabeth C. (Betty) Van Kley, who retired in June after teaching 38 years at Seymore Christian School, will be at 8pm Friday at Zaagman Memorial Chapel.
Betty is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Aardappel. She was married to Arie Wendel Van Kley and he passed away in 1942.
VanKley, 65, of 826 Belfield St. SW, died Thursday of cancer at Haven Park Nursing Home in Zeeland.
She taught at Seymore Christian since 1952 and planned to return this fall as part-time librarian.
A native of Iowa, she taught there 1934 until 1952, when she came to Grand Rapids. She graduated from Westmar College in Iowa and received a master's degree from Northwestern University. During summers she attended Cedar Falls, Iowa State College and Calvin College.
VanKley was a member of the National Council of Teachers of English, the Michigan Christian Teachers Association, Educators Club and Boston Square Christian Reform Church.
She is survived by an aunt and several cousins.
Following a Memorial Service Monday in Orange City, Iowa and burial will be in Hospers Cemetery.
