DEATH CLAIMS JOHN B. PERRY
Early Day Hawarden Business Man Died at LeMars Tuesday

John B. Perry, early day Hawarden business man and later a well known Washington township farmer, died at his home at LeMars Tuesday noon. Mr. Perry was engaged in the farm implement business in Hawarden for several years more than forty years ago, a part of the time in partnership with the late L. B. Oden. They disposed of their implement business here to M. L. Disbrow. After disposing of his implement business here Mr. Perry moved onto the farm, four miles southeast of Hawarden, now owned by F. B. Schoeneman. He operated this farm for eight or ten years before moving to LeMars.

Mr. Perry’s first wife died a considerable number of years ago and he married a second time. His widow survives him and lives in LeMars. He is also survived by two daughters, one living in New Jersey, while the other is superintendent of a hospital in Seattle, Wash.

Funeral services will be conducted at a funeral home in LeMars at 3 o’clock Friday afternoon. Among those from here who plan to attend the funeral are Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Patrick, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. M. Keehn and John T. Shilliam.

DEATH CLAIMS JOHN B. PERRY, OLD RESIDENT
Was Farmer And Business Man In This Vicinity For Many Years

John B. Perry, 73, well known resident of Le Mars, died Tuesday at the Zimmerman Memorial home following an illness of a year. He was an intense sufferer for many months from a painful and incurable malady.

John Bethel Perry was born at Flint, Michigan, March 20, 1863, where he spent his childhood. With his widowed mother, two brothers and a sister, he lived at Platteville, Wis., where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage with Olive Stephens, March 21, 1891, at Platteville. Soon after their marriage they came to Iowa and located near Hawarden on a farm until 1900 when they came to Le Mars. Mrs. Perry died several years ago.

Mr. Perry was married to Florence Garrett, of Sioux City, November 14, 1926. He leaves his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Jane Sweetman, of Newark, N. J., and Miss Ada Perry, of Portland, Oregon. He is also survived by a brother and two sisters.

Served as Alderman

While living in Plymouth county, Mr. Perry was engaged in farming and later conducted a meat market in Le Mars. He also worked at the carpenter trade. Mr. Perry was a hard-working active citizen as long as health permitted. He served as alderman from the Third Ward at one time and proved a good public servant, possessed of judgment and common sense. While living in Hawarden Mr. Perry was affiliated with the Masonic order.

Funeral This Afternoon

The funeral will be held this Friday afternoon at the Beely Chapel at 3 p.m. Services will be conducted by Rev. F. P. Pfaltzgraff, of the Presbyterian church, and Rev. G. O. Thompson, of the Hildreth Memorial church. Interment will be made in the city cemetery.

His death certificate has John Bethel Perry, resident for 10 months at the Zimmerman Home, LeMars, Iowa; wife Florence Perry; born March 20, 1863 in Flint, Michigan; parents’ names unknown to the informant (Mrs. Nellie Ewers, LeMars); died at 12:15 p.m. April 7, 1936; cause, carcinoma of throat, onset November 10, 1934.

His marriage record to Elizabeth Barrett (Ancestry.com) gives him as John B. Perry, age next birthday 63, residence Le Mars, occupation carpenter, born in Flint, Michigan, parents Henry Perry and Jane Floyd, second marriage; bride Elizabeth F. Garritt, maiden name Elizabeth F. Wales, age next birthday 56, residence Sioux City, born in England, parents Fred Wales and Charlotte Stratton, second marriage; married in Hawarden November 14, 1926.
