Pete helped his father on the family farm until he met the love of his life. He was united in marriage to Julene Te Slaa at the Christian Reformed Church in Hull, IA on June 23, 1965. Soon afterward, Pete was drafted into military service. After basic training and receiving his orders, he and his bride were off to his assigned duty station in Colorado Springs, CO. Following the service, they moved back to the Ireton area and resumed their life on the farm. They became the proud parents of two sons, Mike and Mark. After farming with his father, he eventually took over the farm. Pete also worked for the Dragstra Brothers operation. He and Jo remained on the farm until his semi-retirement nine years ago when they moved to Sioux Center.

As a child he was a member of the Lebanon Christian Reformed Church and later became a member of the Ireton Christian Reformed Church where he served as Deacon. He also served as a board member of the Ireton Christian School.

Of all the things Pete enjoyed in his life, he loved nothing more than his family. His wife, boys and their families were his pride and joy.
