Death from a heart attack suddenly caused the passing of Miss Mae Vande Steeg, 69, prominent resident of Orange City, Saturday afternoon. Miss Vande Steeg had been ill with a heart condition some month in the past but was in apparent good health at the time of her decease.

The departed was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Pas) Vande Steeg, original proprietor of the Vande Steeg Store in Orange City. Since Mr. Vande Steeg's death in 1914 the business of the store was carried on by the daughter and the son, Mae and Arthur Vande Steeg in partnership until 1948 when the latter became the sole proprietor. In 1952 a half-interest was sold to Ferbin Bynes.

As an active worker Miss Vande Steeg was interested in church and civic organizations.

Surviving are three sisters: Miss Lucille Vande Steeg and Mrs. Florence Grainger who flew from Los Angeles to attend the funeral, and Dorothy, Mrs. Harold Hanser, who arrived Monday; two brothers: George Vande Steeg of Nampa, Idaho, who was unable to be present because of a heart ailment and Arthur Vande Steeg of Orange City. A sister, Coba, Mrs. J.P. Kilgore of Ogden, Utah died six years ago from a heart attack.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the American Reformed Church of Orange City with Reverend J.A. Veldman officiating. The Van Etten Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
