From the Sioux County Index (Hull), June 15, 1928:

WM. FICK DIES

Wm. Fick was born on the Fifteenth of October, 1849, in Kehdingbruch, Hannover, Germany. On the twenty-second of May, 1884, he was married to Miss Wilhelmina Hensch. This union was blessed with 5 children, 3 boys and 2 girls. The three boys died in infancy. In 1888 Mr. and Mrs. Fick came to America and made their home in Carlstadt, New Jersey, until 1913, when they came to Lyon County, Iowa, to live with their daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Charley Dickmann.

Mr. Fick worked for several years at the carpenter trade for John Jantden[Jantsen?]. but the last years of his life he lived retired. He enjoyed the best of health throughout this long life until last fall, when some ailment of the bladder set in. On the fourth of January he became seriously ill and about two weeks later he had to undergo an operation. That operation was seemingly successful, but on account of his age Mr. Fick regained his strength only very slowly. After some time another operation became necessary and it was performed on the twenty-ninth of May. But Mr. Fick seemed to have a presentiment that he would not recover and was not deceived in this. His condition changed for the worse and on the sixth of June he passed away. He had attained an age of 78 years, 7 months and 21 days.

Mr. Fick is mourned by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Anna Dickmann, Hull, Ia., and Mrs. Minnie Hensch, of Pipestone, Minn., and by 5 grandchildren.

The funeral was held Saturday afternoon from St. Paul’s Lutheran church northeast of Hull, Rev. Goeringer officiating. The sincere sympathy of all goes out to the surviving relatives in their bereavement.
