Hospers Woman Drops Dead In Home

Mrs. Klaas Van Grouw, Hospers, dropped dead at her home Sunday eve. The cause of her death is unknown. Mrs. Van Grouw was born in the Netherlands on September 23, 1868. She came to America 26 years ago. Funeral services will be held Friday in the Christian Ref. Church of Hospers with Rev. Voss in charge. Interment will be in the Hospers cemetery.

FUNERAL TO BE FRIDAY
Mrs. K. Van Grouw Of Hospers Called Beyond

On Monday the people of this vicinity were shocked to hear of the sudden death of Mrs. K. Van Grouw. The latter suffered from goitre and heart trouble. The cause of her death was a heart attack. Mrs. Van Grouw’s lifeless body was found on the floor of her home by a neighbor, Mrs. John Bergsma. Mr. Van Grouw was doing farm work about the barn when the sad news was reported. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Chr. Ref. church.

Her death certificate has her as Stella Van Grouw; born Sept. 23, 1868 in the Netherlands; parents Minse Toering and Grietje Schokkes; resident of the U.S. 26 years and Hospers 10 years; wife of Klaas Van Grouw; died at 8 a.m. November 4, 1935; cause, coronary sclerosis.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Van Grouw, Estella (Toering), b. 1868, d. 1935, mother, Hospers Cemetery, Hospers, IA.

Her FindaGrave.com page adds life dates for her husband Klaas (1870-1947) and lists two children, Minze Krikke (1900-1961) and Henry Krikke (1903-1970). Added notes (no source given) say she was the daughter of Mince and Grietie (Schokkes) Toering; married Klaus Krikke in the Netherlands; they were the parents of three sons, Luke (Oct. 22, 1897-1955), Minard (Feb. 21, 1900-1961), and Henry (March 25, 1903-April 13, 1970); came to the United States in 1910 with her sons; married Klass Van Grouw February 11, 1928 in Orange City.

A birth index record on WieWasWie.nl has Stintje Toering, born 23 Sept. 1868 in Opsterland, Friesland; parents Mintze Jacobs Toering and Grietje Hendriks Schokker.

A marriage index record on WieWasWie.nl. has groom Klaas Luites Krikke, age 27, born in Tjalleberd, father Luite Thymens Krikke, no mother given; bride Stintje Toering, age 21, born in Terwispel, parents Minze Jacobs Toering and Grietje Hendriks Schokker; married 21 March 1890 in Doniawerstal. There is a death index record for Klaas Krikke, son of Lute Krikke and Neeltje van Zwol, husband of Stijntje Toeren, died in Groningen at age 42, recorded 3 Sept. 1906.
