From the Sioux Center News, September 19, 1935:

Funeral services for Jerry De Boer, 19 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Nick De Boer, living near Carmel, were held Saturday in the Christian Ref. Church of Rock Valley. Rev. Gritters officiated. The young man died Wednesday; September 11, in a Mountain Lake, Minn. hospital, following a goiter operation. He Is survived by his parents, one sister and two brothers.

Young Man Died Following Operation

Jerry De Boer, 19-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Nick De Boer, died last week Wednesday following an operation for goiter. He seemed to improve shortly after the operation, but a short time later a change for the worse took place and he died the following day.

Jerry De Boer was a young man who was well thought of by all who knew him and his untimely death is greatly regretted, and his place in the family circle can never be filled. Neighbors and friends extend sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.

He leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nick De Boer, one sister, Anna, and three brothers, Will, Nick and Jake. Another sister died about four years ago.

Funeral services were held in the Christian Reformed church in Rock Valley Saturday afternoon and the remains were taken to the Valley View Cemetery.

His FindaGrave.com page shows him as born 30 Sep 1916 in Rock Valley; died 9 Sep 1935 in Mountain Lake, Cottonwood County, Minnesota. Parents Nick De Boer (1882-1945) and Gertie Flietstra De Boer (1890-1960). Five siblings are listed: Gertrude N. De Boer (1912-1931), William N. De Boer (1913-1990), Anne De Boer Kooima (1915-1988), Nick De Boer (1920-1978), and Jake De Boer (1926-1996).

His Minnesota death certificate -- Cottonwood County, no. 1935-MN-003035 – shows him as a resident of Carmel, Iowa; died in the Boysinger[?] Hospital, Mountain Lake, at 11:05 p.m. September 11, 1935; cause, esoph[ageal?] goiter, duration 5 years; had been treated by the doctor since July 11, 1935; was operated on for the goiter on September 11.

The Mountain Lake Observer (September 19, 1925) contains just a brief note on his death.
