Twedt, Wayne "Bud" 1930-2019

Wayne A. “Bud” Twedt was born September 2, 1930 on the family farm near Hudson, South Dakota to Rudolph and Anna (Severson) Twedt.

He grew up helping on the farm and went to Alcester High School and graduated in 1948. Bud enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Alaska for two years. Following his discharge, he returned to South Dakota and went into farming with his dad.

He met Darlene Collins and they were married on June 17, 1957. Bud first worked for Boswell Co. building highways. He then worked at Hawarden Ready Mix for approximately 12 years. Bud then learned the welding trade working for Harvey Dorhout, Dorhout Welding, Hawarden, IA and Wayne Sheveland, Sheveland's Welding & Repair, Akron, IA. He opened his own welding business, Bud's Welding, Alcester, SD, that he operated until retiring in 2009. Bud loved spending time with his grandchildren and often traveled to see them. His many hobbies included horses, farming, hunting and fishing, the Denver Broncos, bowling, reading westerns, and playing cards with his family and neighbors. He died November 17, 2019 at Hillcrest Care & Rehab Center in Hawarden, IA at the age of 89 years, 2 months, 15 days.

Bud is survived by his wife, Darlene, Hawarden, IA; four daughters, Cheryl Kruid (Randy), Hudson, SD, Joanne Paulsen (Ray), Beresford, SD, Karen Hartwick (Tom), Beresford, SD and Mary Jensen (Doug) Beresford, SD; 15 grandchildren, John Kruid, Tyler Kruid, Adam Twedt, Andrew Paulsen, Gina Setter, Cory Baker, Ryan Baker, Kayla Styles, Kyle Hartwick, Allie Hartwick, Melanie Hite, Molly King, Zach Jensen, Seth Jensen and Dylan Jensen; 31 great-grandchildren and one step brother, John Twedt, San Diego, CA. His parents, Rudolph and Anna; three sisters, Maxine Hild, Dorothy Hammitt and Carol Van Buskirk; one brother, Roy Twedt; two grandchildren, Mandi Jo Farley and Marcus Wayne Kruid preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be 10:30AM Friday, November 22, 2019 at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester, SD with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Lunch & fellowship following funeral service and military honors.
