MARVIN “MARV” MEENDERING

Marvin “Marv” Meendering, the son of Bert and Anne (Mooibroek) Meendering, was born May 23, 1942 in Sioux Center, Iowa. He grew up in the Sheldon area. He graduated from Floyd Valley Community High School in 1960. Marv served in the United States Army from 1964 – 66. He was united in marriage to Ruth Jungers on January 27, 1967 in Rock Valley, Iowa. Marv worked with his brother, Al in a Meat Market in Hull, Iowa. He farmed in the Sheldon area raising livestock. Marv and Ruth owned Prairie Queen Distributing in Sheldon and sold and delivered bakery supplies until their retirement in 2012. Marv passed away November 15, 2019 at Sanford Health Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, reaching the age of 77 years, 5 months and 23 days.
Marv had a big heart. He was kind and honest and made you a better person by just being around him. He would give you the shirt off his back and never expected anything in return. He was proud of his family. He loved to be with his kids and grandkids and watch them play sports, perform in plays, and beat them at cards. He loved to be in his garden, and he made sure the backyard birds and squirrels never went hungry.
Marv had amazing stories. He would laugh so hard when telling a story that it would bring you both to tears. He was slow to anger and quick with a smile. He married his high school sweetheart and for the next 52 years they worked together, raised a family together, and showed us all how to be accepting, understanding, responsible, faithful, how to have fun, and how to be in love.
Marv leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 52 years, Ruth of Sheldon, IA and their children, Matt and Lisa Meendering of Clive, Iowa; Burt Meendering of Sheldon, Iowa; Ann and Scott Maggert of Matlock, Iowa; Nancy and Jeff Kirstein of Lennox, South Dakota and Beth and Tim Meyer of Le Mars, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, Nic, Ben and Tori Meendering, Ryan, Andrew, Samuel, Simon and Rachel Maggert; Grace, Sadie, Tatum, Finley and Roman Meyer; 7 brothers and sisters, Gary (Theresa) Meendering, Cornelia (Harold) Jansen, Lawrence (Marj) Meendering, Allan Meendering, Cal Meendering and Lois (Jim) Dirksen and other relatives and many special friends.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Bert and Ann Meendering and two brothers, John and James Meendering.

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall
not want. He maketh me to lie
down in green pastures; He leadeth
me beside still waters. He
restoreth my soul; He leadeth me
in the paths of righteousness for
His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the
valley of the shadow of death, I will
fear no evil; for Thou art with me;
Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort
me; Thou preparest a table before
me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou anointest my head with oil,
my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall
follow me all the days of my life;
and I will dwell in the house of the
Lord forever.
