Schiebout, Theresa ‘Irene’ Mrs. Ben, born 1928 died 2012

Mrs. Theresa Irene Schiebout, 84, of Orange City, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 at the Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility. Visitation was held on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 2, with the family present from 2 pm. to 4 pm. at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. A prayer service was held on Monday afternoon, Dec. 3, at the funeral home, followed by interment at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. A memorial service followed interment at Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. Revs. Aldon Kuiper and David Heilman officiated.

Theresa Irene was born on August 10, 1928, near Ocheyedan, the daughter of Edward, and Jennie (Feenstra) Van Gelder. She was raised at Melvin until the age of 12 and then moved to Carnes, where she attended country schools. On January 17,1950, she married Benjamin Schiebout in Orange City. They settled south of Orange City, where she was a loving wife, mom and homemaker. They farmed there until 1976, when they moved into Orange City. "Irene" started cooking at the age of 12, making all of the meals for her family. She also cooked for many businesses, including 29 years at K-Products in Orange City. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, caring for and cooking with the grandchildren and working with ladies, developing genealogies for Sioux County and her family. She was a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church, where she participated in the choir. She also sang in the Siouxland Women's Chorus. In February of this year, she moved to the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen. She transferred to the Long Term Care Facility in June.

Survivors include her husband of almost 63 years, "Ben"; sons Conrad Schiebout.of Merrimack, N.H., and Milton Schiebout and his wife Diane of Orange City; daughter Regina and her husband Mike Seaton, of Omaha, Neb.; nine grandchildren, Angela, and her husband David Whitlock, Ryan Schiebout and his wife Emily, Mitchell Schiebout, Logan Schiebout, Marissa Schiebout, Alexandria and her husband David Marchetti, Micaela Clark, Michael Clark and Nathan Seaton; six greatgrandchildren; four brothers and two sisters and their spouses, James Van Gelder of Orange City, Dick and Net Van Gelder of Creston, Wilbur and Betty Van Gelder of Le Mars, Joyce and Nick Hulst and John and Thelma Van Gelder, all of Orange City, and Kathleen Van Wyhe of Ireton In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter Rita Schiebout and son Clayton Schiebout, both in infancy, daughterin-law Debbie Schiebout, sisters-in-law Hendrina Van Gelder and Clarena Van Gelder and brother-in-law Gordon Van Wyhe.
