Egbert “Ed Van Der Sloot, 799, of Hartley died Friday, March 4, at University Hospitals at Iowa City.

Services were Tuesday, March 8 in United Methodist Church in Hartley with the Reverend Melvin Ammon officiating. Burial was in Hope Cemetary in Hull.

Egbert Van Der Sloot, the son of Harry and Martha (Sneller) Van Der Sloot, was born February 3, 1909, in Sioux Center and lived his youth and attended rural school near Sanborn.

He married Jennie Kooiker March 10, 1932 in Canton, South Dakota. He was a farm hand in the Menden and Cleghorn areas and later moved to Hartley where they retired.

Mr Van Der Sloot was a former member of the Presbyterian Church at Cleghorn and a member of the United Methodist Church of Hartley.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Kenneth of Arnolds Park; a daughter, Marlene Gloss of Lyons, Kansas; seven grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren.
