VANDER MEI AUTO CRASH VICTIM

Cornelius Vander Mei, 65, of Ireton was killed in an auto accident two miles west of Lemmon, South Dakota, Tuesday, August 12. His wife, Neldred, and daughter, Beulah, were in the car with him. They were taken to the Five Counties Hospital and later transferred to Bismarck Hospital in serious condition.

Mrs. Arthur Kern of Wataugam driver of the other vehicle, a Chevrolet pickup, also died in the crash.

Funeral services for Vander Mei were held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton last Saturday with the Reverend Arthur Anacker officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery under the direction of Dow Funeral Home.

Mrs. Vernon Eilts was organist. Casket bearers were Walter Struck, Swayne Grau, Earl Brandt, Raymond Moeller, John Draayer, and Henry Dekkers.

Mr. Vander Mei was born October 16, 1903, to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vander Mei in Leewarden, Holland. He came to the United States in 1909 with his parents, settling near Ireton. He was married to Neldred Hagge September 8, 1935, in Ireton.

Besides his wife and daughter, he is survived by three brothers, a daughter, Miss Beulah Marie Vander Mei, at home; three brothers - Gerrit of Escondido, California, and John and Dick, both of Bellflower, California; three sisters - Mrs. Ed (Agnes) Vander Hoef and Mrs. Allen (Rena) Vander Feen, both of Hawarden, Iowa, and Mrs. Sue Davis of Bellflower, California.
