Funeral services for Gerrit Vander Lugt, 71, who died January 9 following a three weeks illness, were held at the Christian Reformed church in Lebanon last Thursday afternoon.

A family prayer service was held in the church basement preceding the funeral. Reverend Duane Tinklenburg officiated. Interment was in the Lebanon cemetery under the direction of the Cooperative Funeral Home Service of Sioux Center. Joe Dekkers and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bonnema sang "Psalter No. 469" and "By the Sea of Crystal." Casket bearers were Earl Kooi, William Kooi, Peter Swier, Lane Kooi, Peter Daale, and Siebert P. Haverhals. Organist was Mrs. Gary Zonnefeld.

Mr. Vander Lugt was born August 31, 1896, in Schipluiden, The Netherlands, son of William and Grietje (Van Santen) Vander Lugt. He lived his youth and attended school in The Netherlands. He came to the United States in 1914 and settled in this vicinity.

He married Bertha Kooi on January 27 1921. He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Lebanon, and active in community affairs.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Raymond of Hawarden and Allen of Patterson, New Jersey; four daughters, Margaret (Mrs. Andrew Vander Stoep) of Cypress, California, Grace (Mrs. Siebert Haverhals) of Hawarden, Lois (Mrs. Tony Hooyer) of Sioux Center, and Dorothy (Mrs. Lester De Jong) of Grand Rapids, Michigan; 30 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Dick and Neal of Hawarden, and three sisters, Mrs. Walter Swier of Colton, South Dakota, Mrs. Gerrit Vander Lught of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Mrs. Peter Daale of Hawarden.

All the children were able to attend the funeral.
