FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MR. VANDER LEE HELD SATURDAY

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 4, at 1:30 P.M. at the Boyden First Reformed Church for one of Boyden’s oldest residents, Mr. John Vander Lee, 89 years 3 months and 28days. The services were in charge of the Reverend H.G. Schoon under the arrangement by the Cooperative Burial Association of Sioux Center. Burial was in the Boyden Cemetery.

Pallbearers were six grandsons: Searle Jacobsma, Myron Vander Lee, and Duane Dykhuizen of Sheldon, John Jacobsma of Sioux City, Norman Vander Lee of Lake Wilson, Minnesota.

Mrs. John Vanden Berg of Sheldon sang “All the Way My Savior Leads Me” and the congregation sang “Amazing Grace.” Mrs. Case Slothouber played the organ.

Mr. John Vander Lee, was born January 3, 1874 at Bunnik, Netherlands, where he grew to manhood.

On September 6, 1899 he was united in marriage to Antonia Burgraaf at Bunnik. To this union two daughters and two sons were born: (Ann) Mrs. Horton Jacobsma of Hospers; Simon Vander Lee of Lake Wilson, Minnesota; Tunis Vander Lee, and (Sophia) Mrs. Al Dykhuizen of Sheldon, all of whom survive. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. He had a sister who was 82 and passed away in the Netherlands on April 30, the day before her brother’s death.

Mr. Vander Lee passed away May 1st at 4:30 P.M. at the Sheldon Hospital following surgery on a broken hip ten days earlier.

Mr. and Mrs. Vander Lee came to the United States in 1914 and settled in Boyden and farmed in this vicinity until 1930 when they retired and he resided in Boyden until his death.

He was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church and was interested in his community.
