Mrs. Wilhelmina "Mina" Vander Laan passed away at her home in Rock Valley Iowa on June 12, 1940 at the age of 62 years, following a lingering illness.

Mrs. Vander Laan was born in Terwolde, Province of Gelderland in the Netherlands on January 20, 1878. She was the daughter of Egbert Bresser and Sena Hulshop Bresser.

She spent the first thirty years of her life in the Netherlands, after which she came to Rock Valley, where she spent the remainder of her life. She was member of the Methodist Church Rock Valley for many years. Due to ill health he was not able to go out, but she was always interested in various activities which took place about her. She was especially interested in raising flowers and in the radio.

Mrs. Vander Laan was united in marriage with Mr. Ben Vander Laan on September 5, 1911. He preceded her in death on September 11, 1937.

Mrs. Vander Laan is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Chris Netting of Edgerton, Minnesota and Miss Sue Vander Laan of Rock Valley. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Gerrit Van Orden Dalfsen and Mrs. Antonia Vander Kraats of Voorst by Zutphen, both in the Netherlands.

Funeral services for Mrs. Vander Laan were held in the Methodist Church of Rock Valley on Saturday afternoon. Reverend Mr. John A. Kettle pastor was in charge of the services. Music was given by the Girls' choir of the church under the leadership of Mrs. J.A. Kettle and Mrs. R.J. McNelly. Miss Margaret Hilton sang a solo. Both of Mrs. Vander Laan's daughters were members of this choir. Pallbearers were Dick Roelofs, Walter Vander Well, Ivor Dearborn, C.A. Walhof, Jim Vander Peel, and Dick Wesselink.
