SCOTLAND, South Dakota -- Ila B. Vander Hamm, 100, of Scotland died Wednesday, December 7, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Center in Scotland just one day before her 101st birthday.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Ireton, Iowa, with the Reverend Tim Walker officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 5 p.m. Friday at Goglin-Kelley Funeral Chapel in Scotland. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Arrangements in Ireton are under the direction of Porter Funeral Home in Ireton.

Ila Belle Vander Hamm was born December 7, 1905, in Sioux County, Iowa, the daughter of Bruce and Flossie (Thomas) Houlton.

She married Lorenz Vander Hamm on June 6, 1928. She taught school in Iowa for many years, after which she owned and operated restaurants in Ireton and Sibley, Iowa. The couple moved to California in 1956. While in California, she worked with troubled teens in San Bernadino County. She moved to Scotland in September 1991. For the past few years, she had resided at the Good Samaritan Center.

She is survived by three daughters, Chalma (Clayton) Oleson of Spanish Fort, Alabama, Charleen (Russell) Rhodes of Destin, Florida, and Nadine Foley of Scotland; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Vander Hamm of Davis, Californi; 12 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles (Helen) Houlton of Ireton, Iowa; and three sisters, Lois (George) Rose, Fern (Marlin) Eilts and Marjorie (Irvin) Johnson, all of Ireton, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lorenz; a son, Charles; three sisters, Mae Poll Riter, Helen Lemke and Neva Brown; and a son-in-law, Dennis Foley.

Pallbearers will be Bill Brown, Dan Brown, Steve Eilts, Doug Houlton, Dick Johnson and Marlin Eilts Jr
