MOURN DEATH OF BABE

Rev. and Mrs. C. K. Newhouse mourn the death of their little baby daughter, Gertrude, who was taken sick with spinal meningitis last week Tuesday and died Monday following, being sick less than a week. She was a little over a year old.

Funeral services were held at the home in Rock Valley Wednesday morning, and the remains were taken to Harrison, S.D. for burial. Rev. Rothshafer of Carmel had charge of the services. The bereaved parents have the sympathy of all who know them in Rock Valley and elsewhere.

Gertrude Maxine Newhouse, fifteen months old daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Clyde Newhouse, died Monday morning at her home here. She had been seriously ill with spinal meningitis for the past week. She is survived by her parents, two sisters, Alice and Leona, and a brother, Lloyd David. The family has the sincere sympathy of a host of friends in this community.

From the Alton Democrat, May 3, 1935, Rock Valley news:

Funeral services for Gertrude Maxine Newhouse, the 15 months old daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Clyde K. Newhouse, who died of spinal meningitis last Monday, were held at the parsonage Wednesday. It was necessary to hold the services outside because of the contagious nature of the disease and rain fell continuously during the service. Rev. Rothschafer was in charge of the services. Rev. and Mrs. H. Colenbrander, Rev. Bert Brouwer, Rev. and Mrs. Aberson, John Smits, James and Charles Vander Ploeg accompanied them to Harrison, S.D., where the little one was laid to rest. They had bad roads all the way and a heavy rain.
