This community was deeply shocked last Thursday afternoon when news came of the death of Mrs. Robert Vander Hamm which occurred at the hospital in Le Mars where she had been rushed on Tuesday night for an operation in the hope that her life might be saved.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 Monday afternoon at St. John’s Lutheran Church, east of Ireton, with Reverend C.D. Nuoffer officiating and with a large concourse of relatives and friends in attendance. Interment was made in St. John’s Cemetery.

Anna Jahn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Jahn Sr., was born February 16, 1894, near Maurice, in Sherman Township, Sioux County. In her early infancy she was taken into the convenant of God by Holy Baptism. Having been duly instructed in the word of God, she professed a good profession before many witnesses and was confirmed in the faith on April 4, 1909. Her youth was spent under the parental roof faithfully serving her aged parents. On February 25, 1920, she was united in marriage with Robert Vander Hamm, son of Mr. And Mrs. August Vander Hamm, and at once began housekeeping on a farm three miles east of Ireton. This union was blessed with two children, Marion and Mildred. Setting out with the brightest of prospects only three years ago their happiness was only of short duration for soon after the birth of Mildred, which occurred only a week before her death, she was taken seriously ill and when her condition grew worse she was taken seriously ill and when her condition grew worse she was taken to the hospital at Le Mars last Tuesday night for an operation which was performed the next day. This operation at first seemed successful but on the following morning, however, a change for the death at the age of 29 years and 15 days.

She leaves her sorrowing husband and two small children, her aged parents and parents-in-law, two sisters, three brothers and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her death.

Mrs. Vander Hamm was an ardent church member and a faithful Christian. She was well known throughout this community and for beyond its pale and was highly esteemed by those of her acquaintance.
