RESEARCH NOTES

News notes in the Aldon Democrat (March 29, 1929) show that after Rev. Brune’s death she went to Mapleton, Iowa, to keep house for Father Hausmann there.

Her death certificate adds her birth date, March 22, 1865 in Wurtemberg, Germany; died at 6:25 p.m. April 30, 1935; cause, chronic lymphatic leukemia.

Her FindaGrave.com page shows her buried in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Haverhill, Marshall County, Iowa, with a photo of her headstone. Parents Joseph Edel (1833-1909) and Teresia Wielhelm Edel (1828-1881). Brothers Mathew Edel (1856-1940) and John Edel (1869-1905).

The 1930 U.S. census for Jefferson Township [probably Haverhill], Marshall County, Iowa, shows her living with her widowed brother Mathew. They immigrated to the U.S. in 1869; she is naturalized, he is not. He is a blacksmith and she is a housekeeper in a private home. Single brothers John and Leo Edel, likely Mathew’s sons, are living with or next door to them.
