Ruth Mae Halma, daughter of Henry and Frances (Vanden Bosch) De Wit, was born October 14, 1931, in Worthington, Minnesota. Ruth grew up in Rock Valley, Iowa until her family moved to Inwood, Iowa later in her childhood. Ruth was united in marriage with Martin Halma at the Inwood Christian Reformed Church on June 1, 1951. Together the couple farmed and operated a dairy near Inwood. The couple moved to town in 1994. In their retirement years, Ruth and Martin enjoyed traveling with Ruth’s siblings. In addition to helping on the farm, Ruth worked as a janitor for several years at the Inwood Christian School. She also went on to obtain her GED and then worked at the Canton-Inwood Hospital as a Dietary Supervisor. Ruth enjoyed sewing, decorating cakes for all occasions and she was an avid doll collector. While volunteering at Justice For All, Ruth would take and refurbish dolls to give to little girls. She would often say, “every girl deserves a doll.” Ruth served as a Calvinette leader and was a member of the Inwood Christian Reformed Church.
