Mrs. Arlene Mouw, age 85, of Orange City, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at the Fieldcrest Assisted Living Community in Sheldon.

There will be a private family funeral service on Wednesday, October 30, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Arlene Wilma was born on November 16, 1933, in Orange City, the daughter of Alferd and Nellie (Vande Griend) Van Meeveren. She was raised on a farm northeast of Orange City, attended a country school, and graduated from the Orange City High School.

On September 25, 1953, she married Lambert John “Jack” Mouw in Orange City. They first made their home in Texas while Jack was in the service and Arlene worked for USAA. They later returned to Orange City and began farming north of town. In addition to being a wife and mother, Arlene had also worked at the soil conservation office, the Dutch Mill Café, the Pantry Café, the House of Orange, and the Pioneer Memorial Home, all in Orange City.

Arlene was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City, where in earlier years she was active in the women’s ministry and had participated in the Sunday School program. She and Jack were also involved in the formation of the Dutch Heritage Boosters.

Arlene and Jack looked forward to their annual week at Vacation Village on Lake Okoboji, and later spending time at their own cabin on Spirit Lake. They also traveled to Port Aransas, Texas during the winter months for over twenty years. She had the gift of hospitality and was intentional about making others feel loved and special. She cherished the times that her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren stopped by for a visit. Arlene liked to travel and play cards and was an avid collector of antiques. She also enjoyed organizing the family’s annual garage sale, browsing thrift stores and garage sales with Jack, and was known for making “the best” potato salad.

Survivors include her husband of more than 66 years; three daughters and their husbands, Lea and Gary Eade, of Plano, Texas; and their children, Nicholas Eade, and his wife, Kelsey, of St. Joseph, Missouri; Christopher Eade, and his wife, Brittany, of Loveland, Colorado; and Jeremy Eade, and his wife, Megan, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Nora and Brett Mulder, of Orange City; and their children, Kelci, and her husband, Andrew Van Es; and Andrew Mulder, all of Council Bluffs; and Kay and Mike Kleinhesselink, of Orange City; and their children, Jordan Kleinhesselink, and his wife, Lora, of Alton; and Sabrina, and her husband, Tyler Kroese, of Hospers; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister and her husband, Ella Mae and Merle Van Klompenburg, of Orange City.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
