Mrs. Gerrit J. Vanden Top died in her home in Rock Valley Friday morning, February 10, following a brief illness. Mrs. Vanden Top had attained the age of 69 years, 11 month and 7 days.

She was born in Ede, Netherlands, March 3, 1869, where she grew to womanhood, and was united in marriage with Gerrit John Vanden Top March 30, 1889.

They continued to reside in the Netherlands until 1911 when they came, with their children, to this country, coming directly to Rock Valley.

They lived on a farm near here for three years and then moved to Lyon County and lived on a farm near Alvord until seven years ago, when they retired from the farm and moved to Rock Valley to make their home.

Mrs. Vanden Top is survived by her husband and nine children, three daughters and six sons. One boy died in infancy, and another son, Elmer, was killed in an automobile accident ten years ago. The children are, Mrs. Henry Hoefakker, Rock Valley; Mrs. Peter Sluiter, Grand Rapids, Michigan; Mrs. Gerrit Vander Stouwe, Alvord; Gerrit Vanden Top, Inwood; Jake, Gilbert, John, George and Tom, all of Alvord.

Mrs. Vanden Top is also survived by one brother in the Netherlands, 34 grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Vanden Top had planned to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on March 30 of this year.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 14, in the Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley, with Reverend J. Vander Hoef in charge, and the remains were taken to the Valley View Cemetery.
