Jack Vanden Berg, 71, of Sioux Center, died Tuesday, April 6, 1993 at the Sioux Center Hospital. Services were held Friday, April 9, at Vander Ploeg Chapel in Sioux Center. Burial followed in Hope Cemetery at Hull. A memorial service was held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center.

Mr. Vanden Berg was born September 10, 1921 in Sheldon, the son of Dick and Jacoba (De Bruyn) Vanden Berg. He attended Hospers Christian School and Western Christian High School in Hull. He married Emma Vander Spoel June 5, 1946. He farmed for 10 years at Hospers, George and Boyden. He then attended Dordt College and Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he also taught for one year. He attended school at the University of Iowa and returned to Dordt College where he taught the English department for 21 years, retiring in 1987.

Mr. Vanden Berg had served as a deacon at the Hospers Christian Reformed Church and an elder at the Iowa City Christian Reformed Church and the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Douglas Dean of Sioux Center; a brother, Cornelius and two sisters, Nellie De Haas and Magdalene Vanden Berg, all of Hospers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Greta Vander Hoeven.
