Mrs. Anthony Vanden Berg of Hull, nee Maria Jansen was born at Heteren, Gelderland, Netherlands on October 4, 1877 and departed from this life on February 13, 1943 at the age of 65 years, 4 months and 9 days.

On April 2, 1903, she was united in marriage to Anthony Vanden Berg. Their long union of nearly forty years was blessed with five children, one daughter Christina departing at the age of four months.

For the first ten years of their married life they resided in the Netherlands after which they came to America, making their home in Grand Rapids, Michigan for three years.

They then moved to Sioux County where they farmed for the ensuing twenty years. They retired from their farm at Boyden, moving to Hull in March 1937.

A year and a half ago she suffered a severe heart attack. She recovered enough to be up and about being able to attend church reguarly until Sunday, February 7, 1943, when she suffered a paralytic stroke. She remained conscious until she very quietly went to her eternal reward early Saturday morning at one o'clock.

One brother and two grandchildren preceded her in death.

Mourning her departure are her faithful husband, four children, Johanna, Mrs. Peter Vis of Hull; Alice, Mrs. Peter Gerritsen of Orange City and Chris Vander Berg of Boyden; Anthonetta, Mrs. John Van Surksum of Doon and nine grandchildren. Two brothers in the Netherlands and Chris Jansen of Hull and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock at the home and at 1:30 o'clock at the Christian Reformed Church with Reverend It. L. Haan officiating. Burial was made at the Hope Cemetery at Hull.
