Mr. Edson C. Huffman, age 82, of Orange City, Iowa, passed away on August 4, 2008, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, August 30, at 11:00 A.M., at the Faith Lutheran Church in Orange City. The Reverend David Daumer and the Reverend Daniel Kordahl will officiate. There will be a graveside service on Saturday, at 10:15 A.M., at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Edson Clare was born on January 10, 1926, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Clare and Evelyn (Foreman) Huffman. He was raised in the Toledo area, where he graduated from high school. During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre of the United States Navy. He then attended the University of Toledo, where he was a member of Alpha Phi Omega, a national scouting fraternity, and Kappa Kappa Psi, a national band fraternity, graduating in 1950.

On April 8, 1949, he married Patricia Joyce Brown in Toledo. They made their home in Detroit and Saginaw, Michigan, where he was a computer systems analyst for the Michigan Bell Telephone Company. They then moved to Denver, Colorado, where he was employed by the Bell System Comptrollers Training Center.

In 1982, Mr. and Mrs. Huffman retired to Fremont County, Colorado, where he helped organized the Deer Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, which later became the Deer Mountain Fire Protection District. In 1993, they relocated to Canon City, Colorado, where he was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and volunteered at the local hospital. Due to his declining health, they moved to Orange City in March of 2008, to be near their son, Timothy, and his family.

Ed joined the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, in 1952, and was an involved member of the various congregations where they lived, singing in the choir and serving as a church officer and Sunday school teacher. He was twice chosen as a delegate to the National Synodical Convention.

Survivors include his wife of more than 59 years, Pat; four sons and their wives, William and Karyn Huffman, of Seattle, Washington; Steven and Linda Huffman, of Littleton, Colorado; Eric and Ruth Huffman, of Clarksville, Maryland; and Timothy and Soni Huffman of Orange City; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Huffman.
