Larry Kruse age 69, of Boyden, IA died Monday, August 19, 2019, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2019, at St. John Lutheran Church in Boyden, IA with Rev. Mark Lund, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery at Boyden, IA.

Visitation will be Friday, August 23rd from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

Larry Dean Kruse was born June 22, 1950, in Sibley, IA the son of Henry A. and Elsie (Hundt) Kruse. Larry was confirmed on March 22, 1964 at St. John Lutheran Church. He attended parochial school from kindergarten through the fifth grade at St. John Lutheran School, and later attended middle and high school in Sheldon, graduating in 1968. He continued his education at Worthington Community College graduating in 1970 and went on to Northwestern College in Orange City to complete his bachelor’s degree in Business Education. On July 10, 1970, he was united in marriage to Sheryl Larae Van Dyk at St. John Lutheran Church near Boyden. They made their home on an acreage near Boyden for 49 years. After graduating from college, he started working at Sudenga Industries in George. In 1976, Larry was offered an opportunity in a partnership in owning Sudenga Industries. Larry helped to lead and grow this company and was the president and co-owner of Diversified Technologies (the parent company of Sudenga Industries and Dur-A-Lift) for 41 years. Larry enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities, tailgating at Jackrabbit football games, watching Hawkeye football and basketball, golfing with friends, participating in community theater, traveling and spending time with his family. He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church where he was involved in church council, choir, mission work, prison ministries, and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Larry’s smile was contagious and he loved to joke around. He always put others before himself and was his children and grandchildren’s biggest fan. He was a loving father and a devoted husband.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sherri Kruse of Boyden, IA; daughter, Robin (Chuck) Sjogren of Brandon, SD; son, Ryan (Anna) Kruse of Sioux Falls, SD; 4 grandchildren, Holden Sjogren (Sarah Jesse), Zoey Sjogren, Jakob Kruse and Mollie Kruse; brother, Roger (LaDonna) Kruse of Matlock, IA; two brothers-in-law, Elmer Winter of Boyden, IA, Lawrence Modder of George, IA; mother-in-law, June Van Dyk of Boyden, IA; brother-in-law, Eldon (Musch) Van Dyk of Boyden, IA; sister-in-law Sandy (Bert) Goeringer of Hull IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry A. and Elsie Kruse; an infant brother, Donald Kruse; and two sisters, Joanne Winter and Lorna Modder.
