Mrs. Wassenaar dies following 2-car accident

A former Orange City woman died Sunday of injuries received in a two-car collision.

Mrs. Alfred Wassenaar, 32, of rural Sheldon, died at a Springfield, Minnesota hospital. The accident occurred Saturday near Sanborn, Minnesota, which is 11 miles west of Springfield.

Mrs. Wassenaar's husband and three of their four children were hospitalized in good condition following the accident. The children were Alfred. 8, Nyla, 4, and Wade, 1. Their son Robert, 15, was at home at the time of the accident.

Mrs. Wassenaar is the former Bernyce "Bernice" Wielenga of Orange City. She was the daughter of Andrew and Tena (Haarsma) Wielenga. The Wassenaar family home is four miles west and 1¼ miles south of Sheldon.

Mrs. Wassenaar was born in Orange City May 26, 1927 and attended country school near here. She was married to Alfred Wassenaar at Orange City on September 3, 1943, and the couple lived on a farm near Orange City. They lived in the Orange City and Middleburg area until 1950, when they moved to Sheldon.

In addition to her widower and children, Mrs. Wassenaar is survived by five brothers, Henry and Vernon of Orange City, Enno of California, Donald and Lawrence at home; and four sisters, Mrs. George Kuik and Mrs. Peter Van Wyk, both of Orange City, Mrs. Fred De Beer of Prinsburg, Minnesota, and Delores at home.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 1:30 p.m. in the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City.
