MRS. J. F. VANDENBERG

On Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock Mrs. J. F. Vandenberg, nee Anna Van Tol, passed away calmly in the Lord, at Worthington, at the age of 78 years, ten months.

She was born in Pella, Iowa, in 1853. In 1870 the family emigrated to Orange City in Sioux County where deceased was one of the first school teachers. In 1875 she was united in wedlock with J. F. Vandenberg, who survives her.

This union was blessed with eight children, all of whom are living except one boy who died in infancy. Those living are Mrs. L. H. Newburge of Los Angeles; Mrs. J. O. Dierich, Parkers Prairie; Mrs. Nick Koele, Hull, Ia.; Mrs. C. H. Kinne, Minneapolis; Will L., Chicago, Ills.; Harry F., Waukegan, Ills.; and John E. of Worthington.

Mrs. Vandenberg was well and favorably known having been engaged in the millinery business in Chicago for 20 years. The family moved to Chicago [in] 1905, later moving to St. Paul and from there to Worthington, which was Mrs. Vanderberg’s [note change in spelling] home until her death.

Her life was one long service of love and devotion to her family, and her friends always found her ready to cheer, sympathize or help. She will be missed by all who knew or came in contact with her.

She came to Orange City in pioneer days with her mother and stepfather, W. DeHaan, both deceased, two sisters, Mrs. J. Den Beste, Yakima, Wash., and Mrs. H. Vis of Harrison, S.D., and three brothers, Isaac De Haan of Pella, Iowa, John of Toledo, Ohio, and Henry of Sheldon, all of whom are living. She was laid to rest in Orange City, August 27th.
