From the Hawarden Independent, May 31, 1934:

DEATH OF FORMER RESIDENT
Harry W. McAllister Passed Away at Spearfish, S.D., May 15th

Harry W. McAllister of Spearfish, S.D., a former resident of Hawarden, passed away suddenly at his home the night of May 15th. Mr. McAllister had been in his usual health but awakened in the night and complained of being ill. He got up but returned to bed and passed away almost immediately. Funeral services were held at Spearfish and he was buried there.

Harry W. McAllister, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. McAllister, was born near Keswick, Iowa. He was about 46 years of age. He came to Hawarden about thirty years ago and for six or seven years made his home with his brother, Dr. F. J. McAllister, attending the local high school. Later he went to Elgin, Ill., where he attended a watchmaker’s school after which he located in the Black Hills region and engaged in the jewelry business. It was while there that he was married.

A number of years ago he returned to Hawarden and for a time was engaged in the jewelry business here until he sold his business to Coleman & Anderson in 1921 and returned to Spearfish, S.D., and since then has made his home there.

He is survived by his wife and one son, Charles. He also leaves to mourn his untimely death one brother, Homer McAllister of Laramie, Wyo., and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Martha McAllister of this city. Mrs. McAllister was at Mason City when she received word of his death and was unable to attend the funeral.

The South Dakota Death Index on Ancestry.com has Hary[sic] W. Mcallister, died 14 May 1934, Lawrence County, South Dakota.

FindaGrave.com has Harry Walker McAllister, 1887-1934, with a photo of his headstone; buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Spearfish, South Dakota. No other family members are listed.

Ancestry.com has a marriage record for his probable son, Charles Wesley McAllister, married at Yakima, Washington to Kathryn Lillian Anderson on June 22, 1937. Charles (age 24) was born in Spearfish, S.D., parents Harry Walker McAllister and Myrtle May Dallmann.

Ancestry.com also has a marriage record for Harry McAllister, age 24, and Myrtle D. Schaak, age 18, both residents of B. Fourche Butte, South Dakota, on June 28, 1911.

Ancestry.com has an Iowa Births and Christenings Index record for McAllister, born 4 Jan 1887 in Dayton, Iowa, parents Chas. W. McAllister and Viola Rush.

His World War I draft registration card (June 1917) shows him as Harry W. McAllister, age 30, born Jan. 4, 1887 in Keswick, Iowa; a jeweler and optometrist, residence Spearfish, S.D.; wife and child; medium height and build, brown eyes, dark brown hair.

In the 1900 U.S. census he is living in Center Township, Cedar County, Iowa with his parents Charles and Viola and brothers Fred (22) and Homer E. (17, born July 1882); Harry’s age is also given as 17 (age 13 crossed out, born Jany 1883). In 1910 (age 23) he is living in Belle Fourche Ward 1, Butte, S.D., a watchmaker in a jewelry store, rooming with a farmer and his wife. In 1920 (age 33) he is living in Buncombe, Sioux County, Iowa with wife Myrtle (26) and son Charles (7, born in South Dakota); he is a jeweler. In 1930 the family is living in Spearfish, S.D., where Harry is a jeweler in a drug store and Myrtle M. is a hairdresser in a beauty parlor.
