DEATH OF MRS. ARTHUR C. TILGNER---DIED TUESDAY MORNING AT HER HOME IN ABERDEEN --WAS 47 YEARS OF AGE--LEAVES HUSBAND AND TWO SONS--FUNERAL WEDNESDAY

Mrs. Arthur C. Tilgner, a former well known resident of Hawarden, passed away shortly before 3 o’clock Tuesday morning at her home at Aberdeen, South Dakota. Mrs. Tilgner had been in ill health for the past three or four years. During the past summer she submitted to an operation for gall bladder trouble at the Mayo Hospital at Rochester, Minnesota. She was convalescing from the effects of this operation at her home when about a week prior to her death she was stricken with pneumonia and in her frail health was in no condition to combat the ravages of this disease and for several days prior to her death her condition was regarded as critical. Mrs. M.M. Tilgner of Hawarden, had been at Aberdeen for a couple of months assisting in her care.

Funeral services were conducted at Aberdeen Tuesday afternoon, in charge of the Order of Eastern Star. The remains were brought to Hawarden Wednesday and services conducted at 3:30 that afternoon at the Associated Church, in charge of Reverend James S. Smith, the pastor. Interment was made in Grace Hill Cemetery with the local Eastern Star Chapter in charge of the service at the grave.

Helen Scott was born August 3, 1882, at Remsen, Iowa, and died at Aberdeen, South Dakota, November 5, 1929 at the age of 47 years, 3 months and 2 days. She came to Hawarden with her parents when a small girl but after residing here only a few years the family moved to Lennox, South Dakota, where she grew to womanhood. Later she returned to Hawarden and took a special course at St. Mary’s School and it was at this time that Mr. Tilgner met and wooed her. They were married February 27, 1907, at the home of her parents at Lennox. Mr. Tilgner at that time being employed in the Hawarden State Bank. They left Hawarden about 1911 and have since resided at Cogswell, North Dakota, Northville and Brentford, South Dakota, and about ten years ago moved to Aberdeen where they have since made their home.

Although confines to her home for so much of the time during the past few months and almost a constant sufferer, she loved to read and spent much time reading aloud. The best books were kept constantly at hand. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and of the Order of Eastern Star and had served as Grand Ada and Grand Conductress of the Grand Chapter of South Dakota.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, Arthur C. Tilgner and two sons, Leslie, aged 20, and Ronald, aged 16, of Aberdeen, South Dakota; her aged mother, Mrs. Scott, a sister, Emma, and a brother Andrew, all of Lennox, South Dakota, besides other relatives and friends.

She was a devoted wife and a loving sacrificial mother, and many old Hawarden friends outside the family circle will deeply mourn her passing. passing.
