Herb Caswell, 80, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Friday, May 31, 2019 at Mercy One in Sioux City, Iowa.

Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2019 at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars. Reverend Jan Christensen will officiate. Burial with military honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 of Le Mars will be at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. There will be a Prayer Service at 5:00 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Darwin “Herb” Glenn Caswell was born January 28, 1939 in Sioux Center, Iowa, the son of George and Wilhelmina “Minnie” (Kriuzenga) Caswell. He grew up in Hull, Iowa, where he attended school. He graduated from Hull High School in 1957. Following high school, he took college courses at Morningside College in Sioux City.

He was united in marriage to Hester Driesen on April 1, 1960 in Rock Valley, Iowa. Shortly after their marriage, Herb was drafted into the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged in November of 1963.

Following his discharge from the service, Herb began his career with Iowa Public Service and later MidAmerican Energy. He and Hester lived in Storm Lake, Iowa for 14 years before being transferred to Sioux City. In 1979, he was transferred to Le Mars and became the regional manager. Herb retired from MidAmerican Energy in 1995. Following his retirement, Herb worked in the pro shop at Willow Creek Golf Course in Le Mars for 20 years. During the winter months, he and Hester enjoyed wintering in Arizona.

Herb was a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars and the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 of Le Mars. Herb loved to golf. He spent most of his retirement years golfing in Le Mars during the summer and in Arizona during the winter. He also enjoyed playing cards. He loved spending time with his grandkids and going to all of their activities.

Survivors include his wife, Hester of Le Mars; two children: Brian (Rhonda) Caswell of Le Mars and Sheri Beitelspacher (special friend, Nate Jibben) of Le Mars; 4 grandsons: Todd (Allie) Caswell of Blaine, MN, and their children, Olivia and Emily, Troy Caswell of Le Mars, Blake Beitelspacher of Le Mars, and Colton Beitelspacher of Le Mars; his brother: George (Muriel) Caswell of Enid, OK; his in laws: Jim Driesen (special friend, Betty) of Rock Valley, IA, Linda (Tim) Rens of Sioux Falls, SD, Mina (Herb) Bliek of Rock Valley, IA, Junior (Aletha) Driesen of Ripon, CA, and Kathy Driesen of Mohave Valley, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Minnie Caswell; his father and mother in law: John and Nel Driesen; and his in laws: Etta Driesen and Al Driesen.
