MRS. JOHN THEIS ----OLD TIME RESIDENT

Mrs. John P. Theis, who died at her home on April 9, was born in Joe Davis County, Illinois, on July 7th, 1862. Her maiden name was Barbara Heer. She was married April 18, 1887 to John Theis of Sioux County and the couple began farming on the Theis farm southeast of Hospers, where they resided continuously for a period of 48 years. She was 72 years and 9 months.

Of the seven children born to the union three survive, namely: Anthony, Margaret and Leo. Three children died in infancy and one son, John at the age of 22 years. Besides her husband, two sisters survive, Mrs. Mary Greenwald of Dubuque, 86 years of age and Mrs. Barbara Haupert of Bellevue, Iowa; also one brother, George Heer of Hanover, Illinois.

Mrs. Theis was a faithful member of the Christian Mothers Society of St. Anthony’s Church, Hospers. She was a devoted wife and mother, a kind neighbor and friend. Many old time friends from her home community, from Granville, Alton and neighboring towns came to attend the services, which were held at St. Anthony’s Church Thursday, with the pastor, Reverend Thoenissen officiating. Pallbearers were Jacob List, Dominic Penning, Mike Friedrick, John Remacle, William Klein and J.W. Jungers.
