MRS. G.J. TE SLAA BURIED ON MONDAY----86 YEAR OLD LADY --A GREAT- GREAT GRANDMOTHER--PASSES AWAY SUDDENLY SATURDAY

Mrs. Gerrit J. Te Slaa, a resident of Hull and vicinity since 1901, died at her home here in Hull last Saturday morning, July 20th at about 4:30 o’clock in the morning. Her death was due to flu and old age.

Mrs. Gertrude Te Slaa had been an invalid for many years and for about the past year and a half was bed fast. She was cared for during the past seven years by her daughter, Mrs. Dora Vander Schaaf, who was a patient in the local hospital at the time of Mrs. Te Slaa death. The deceased although unable to attend church, took interest in all church activities and listened to the services over a private wire between the church and her home.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 22nd, at 1:30 o’clock from the home and at 2:00 o’clock from the local First Reformed Church, Reverend G.H. Douwstra, her pastor, officiating. Interment was made in Hope Cemetery. The pallbearers were Edward Ver Meer, Gerrit H. Te Slaa, Gerrit J. Te Slaa, Wilmer Miersma, Gerrit Ver Meer and Ralph L .Kooiker, all grandsons.

The Index joins the many friends of the family in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved relatives.

Mrs. G.J. Te Slaa, nee Gertrude Johanna Kruisselbrink, was born on October 16th, 1853 in Winsterswyk, Gelderland, The Netherlands and passed away on July 20th, 1940, at Hull, Iowa, having reached the age of 86 years, 10 months and 12 days.

She spent her youth in the old country and was married to Mr. Gerrit J. Te Slaa in 1875. In 1893 the family came to the United States settling for the first eight years in Sioux Center. They then moved to a farm three miles south of Hull where they resided until 1923 when they moved into town. Mr. Te Slaa died in April, 1931.

Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Te Slaa. An infant, who passed away in Holland, and Hanna (Mrs. E. Ver Meer), Hattie (Mrs. Harry Miersma) and Gerrit also preceded their mother in death.

Surviving are seven children: Henry, John, Cynthia (Mrs. J. Ver Meer), Dott (Mrs. Lambert Kooiker). Dora (Mrs. James Vander Schaaf), Dena (Mrs. John Hospers), and Will--all of Hull, 41 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild.
