County Pioneer Dies in South

Peter Dunn, who moved from Granville to Stuttgart, Oklahoma in 1895, died on April 15 at his home in Stuttgart after a continued illness at the age of 73 years. The funeral was held on April 19 from the Holy Rosary church in Stuttgart.

Mr. Dunn was born in Ireland and came to this country with his parents when five years old. They located in Sheboygan county, Wisconsin. He was 18 years old when he enlisted with the Union army in the civil war in 1861, serving as sergeant with the Wisconsin Veteran Volunteers until the end of the war. He moved to Granville in 1873 where he was married to Miss Elizabeth Farrell of Sheldon and to them were born seven boys and two girls, all now living except one son, who died in Stuttgart in 1900. In November 1895 the family moved to Stuttgart where they have resided ever since. He leaves his wife, two daughters, Mrs.R.J. Dillon of Milwaukee and Mrs. Fred Gamberg of Sioux Falls:six sons, Tom of Sanborn, Iowa, Will and Ferd of Milwaukee, John of Albany, Ga., Patrick of Terra Haute, Ind., and Leonard of Stuttgart, Okla., and six grandchildren to mourn their loss. Mr. Dunn had lived a life of worth which is being closely followed by his six sons who are all most worthy. As a last respect to their beloved parent these sons acted as pall bearers at the funeral which was also attended by the members of the James Hinds post, G.A.R.

He was a devoted and affectionate husband and father, a consistent member of the Catholic church and a man whose life was a help to many friends. As he grew weaker his thoughts turned more and more toward the infinite and in the silence and solitude of his sick room he met his Master face to face and gave his soul into the keeping of his God.
