Ulysses S. Tackett, who has made his home in Alton for the last five years with his daughter, Mrs. F.G. Klein, died at the Grossmann Hospital July 13th. He had been in ill health for some months.

Mr. Tackett was born at Virgie, Kentucky, September 12, 1879, the second oldest of 13 children born to George and Martha Tackett. He married Texie Blackburn in 1904 and three children were born to the union, two having died in infancy. Mrs. Klein is the only surviving child, together with two grandsons, Jerry and Jim Klein and one great-grandson. Mrs. Tackett died in 1920. He married Ida Smith of Shelby, Kentucky in 1936 and is survived by his widow, of Portsmouth, Virginia; three brothers and three sisters.

He was a painter and carpenter at Portsmouth, Virginia and during the last twenty years frequently visited his daughter here, becoming a permanent resident five years ago.

Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 at the Van Etten Funeral Home and at 2:00 o’clock at the Presbyterian Church in Alton, Reverend Mark Witmer officiating. Interment was in the Hospers Cemetery.

Vocal music was furnished by Mrs. Fred Eason and Mrs. Max Kieran, with Mrs. Mark Witmer as organist. Pallbearers were Richard Cambier, Carl Harriman, A. Van Nimwegen, R.A. Poppen, H.W. Jansen all of Alton, George Mount of Le Mars.
