In den ouderdom van 79 jaren en ongeveer 4 maanden, overleed Oudejaarsavond zachtnen kalm, na reeds eenigen tijd aan kanker lijdende te zijn geweest, Mr. G. H. Schoep. De overledene heft hoegenaamd geen pijn geleden, of erge benauwdheid gahad. Mr. Schoep behoorde onder de oudste inwoners van Sioux Center. Hij kwam 37 jaren geleden met aijn gezin uit Nederland en vestigde zich op 80 acres 5 mijl N. O. van Orange City. Hij zag spoedig in welk enn toekomst Sioux Center had. Hij kocht het Pekelder land en vestigde zich metterwoon op de plaats in Oud Sioux Center, waar later de Punt familie woonde. Dat was in 1884. Hij had toen 1680 acres land gekocht. De reden dat hij al dat land niet hield was dat hij een hekel had aan schuldmaken. Toen de spoorweg gebouwd werd kockt hij 80 acres van Mr. t. Prins, Oost van Main street in Sioux Center, waar nu hoofdzakelijk het residence gedeelte van de stad is. In 1890 begon hij in compagnieschap met zijn zoon P. L. Schoep een store. Na een paar jaar trok hij zich echter uit de zaken terug.
Tien Jaren geleden stierf zijne echtgenoote. Later trad hij weder in het huwelijk met de weduwe Boomgaars, die hem overleehu.
Hij laat de volgende kinderen na: P. L. Schoep, Mrs. Berend Rozeboom, mrs. Wm. Remmerde, J. Schoep, and Mrs. N. Wassenaar. De Begrafenis zal Vrijdagnamidag plaats hebben. Om een uur zal er een dienst aan huis zijn om half twee in de Tweede Geref. Kerk, onder lejding van Rev. Haverkamp.In the old age of 79 years and about 4 months, New Year's Eve died gently calm, after already only time to have been suffering from cancer, Mr. G. H. Schoep. The deceased suffered no pain whatsoever. Mr. Schoep belonged to the oldest inhabitants of Sioux Center. He came 37 years ago with his family from the Netherlands and settled on 80 acres 5 miles N. E. of Orange City. He soon saw in what future Sioux Center had. He bought the Pekelder land and settled on the site in the old Sioux Center, where later the Punt family lived. That was in 1884. He had then bought 1680 acres of land. When the railroad was built, he bought 80 acres of Mr. T. Prins, east of Main Street in Sioux Center, where now mainly the residence part of the city is. In 1890, he started a store in partnership ship with his son P. L. Schoep. After a few years, however, he withdrew from the business.
Ten years ago his wife died. Later He married the widow Boomgaars, who survives him.
He leaves the following children: P. L. Schoep, Mrs. Berend Pink Tree, Mrs. Wm. Remmerde, J. Schoep, and Mrs. N. Wassenaar. The funeral will be Friedy noon at this place. Schoep died the funeral was Friday at the 2nd Ref Church.Note: According to a report on ancestry.com (by others) Gerrit Hendrik Schoep was born August 17, 1838 in the Netherlands. He married Johanna Berkhoff Jan 25, 1862 at Epe, Gelderland Neth. They had a large family. He died Dec 31, 1917 in Sioux Center. His parents were Gerrit Cornelis Schoep and Louisa Klaasdr Rouwenhorst.
He came to the USA in 1880 from Gelderland Netherlands. His wife Johanna Berkhoff 1838 – 1907. Children listed were – Louise Franken 1862-1908; Pieter Louis 1863-1934; Aartje Rozeboom 1865-1952; Gerrit Kornelis 1868-1889; Johanna Schoep 1869-1951; John G. 1872-1955; Hattie Wassenaar 1875-1947; Gerharda Schoep 1875-1947.
