Died: November 15, 1936Mrs. Gertrude Swier died at the Holland Home for the Aged at Sheldon, Iowa, Sunday morning, November 15. In spite of her advanced age Mrs. Swier had been quite well, until about a month before her death, when she continued to fail very noticeably.
Mrs. Swier was born on January 26, 1860. Her life until she was married was spent in the Netherlands. She was united in marriage with Mr. Cornelius Swier in the Netherlands. Immediately after which they came to the United States to make their home. Mrs. Swier lived with her family at Lebanon, Iowa and Colton, South Dakota. About fifteen years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Swier moved to Rock Valley, where they lived until the death of Mr. Swier on December 1, 1927. Mrs. Swier remained in Rick Valley until June 1, 1928 when she moved to the Sheldon Home for the Aged. Gertrude enjoyed the last years if her life at the Sheldon Home very much. She is often known to have remarked how pleasant it was to be able to spend her old age so comfortably.
Mrs. Gertrude Swier is survived by two sons, who are Edward of Rock Valley and Walter of Albany, Oregon. Two daughters, (Alyda) Mrs. Gerrit Vander Lugt and (Clara) Mrs. Lane Van Duyn, died at Colton, South Dakota, just before the Swier family moved to Rock Valley. Mrs. Swier is also survived by her brother, Evert J. De Groot of Sioux Center. She is also survived by twenty grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Swier were held at the Sheldon Home, Tuesday afternoon, November 17, at 1:30 P.M. Reverend John Gritter, pastor of the Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley was in charge of the services. Burial was made at the Valley View Cemetery at Rock Valley at 3:30 P.M. Tuesday afternoon.
