Funeral services for Mrs. Alva Mae Degen, 71, of Ireton will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton today at 2:00 p.m. following morning services at Dow Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Reverend Arthur Anacker will officiate.

Mrs. Allen Bertran will sing "Abide With Me" and " Be Still My Soul," with Mrs. Vernon Eilts at the organ. Casket bearers are Erlyn Cain, Edward Treiber, Kearney Hemmingson, Harold De Graff, Marvin Kots, and Lindford Richardson.

Mrs. Degen was born Alva Mae Stuckenbruck on October 9, 1896, in Keystone, South Dakota. She married Eldo Degen February 14, 1918, in Rock Valley, Iowa, and the couple farmed between Ireton and Rock Valley until retirement in 1952. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid.

Besides the widower, survivors include two sons, Wilbur of Madison, South Dakota, and Earl of Ireton, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Lavon Becker of Onida, South Dakota, and Mrs. Wilbur (Norma) Heuer of Ireton; one brother, Richard Stuckenbruck of Sioux Center, Iowa; one sister, Mrs Ethel Riegel of Le Mars, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
