William “Bill” Stover, 72, passed away at his home Sunday at 4 A.M. on December 12, after suffering a few strokes the past week. Mr. Stover was born in Hanover, Germany on December 26, 1876. He came to this country when he was 14 years old and made his home with an uncle. When 21 years old he returned to Germany for a visit and brought two brothers back with him. In 1905 he was united in marriage with Martha Puhrman at Paullina. They settled down in Hospers where he at first operated a creamery, later a light plant, and in 1935 was appointed as Postmaster here which position he held till 1947 when he resigned on account of failing health.

Surviving him are his wife, one daughter, Savada (Mrs. Dick Thomas of California), three sons, Melvin of Clear Lake, South Dakota, Randall of Le Mars and Dale at home; three grandchildren, Dixie Lynn and Darla Thomas and William Richard Stover; one brother, Earnest Stover of Paullina. There is one sister in Bremen, Germany.

He was preceded in death by one son Vincent of September 27, 1935 and one brother.

Funeral rites were held Tuesday afternoon at one o’clock at the home and 1:30 at the Presbyterian Church where he was a member and acting trustee and treasurer for many years. Reverend H. Eggink officiated and interment was in the Hospers Cemetery.
