Joseph M. Stoos, 77, a resident of the Marion community for fifteen years, and formerly of Yankton, South Dakota, passed away at 11:55 A.M. Tuesday, October 14, in a Cedar Rapids Hospital following a lingering illness.

He was born the son of John and Johanna Knewel Stoos on June 26, 1903 at Remsen, Iowa. On February 13, 1928, at Alton, he was married to Loretta Miller. Mr. Stoos was employed with the Game, Fish, and Parks Division of Yankton, South Dakota, when retiring in 1965. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are three sons, Joseph L. and Phillip Stoos, both of Marion, Donald Stoos of Aurora, Colorado; three daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Esther) Wright of Marion, Mrs. Theodore (Joann) Juarez of Morrow Bay, California and Mrs. Merle (Bernadine) Plumb of Longmont, Colorado; twenty grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Stoos of Cherokee and Jerome Stoos of Remsen; three sisters, Mrs. Florentine Nitzschke of Sioux City, Mrs. Morros (Olivia) Scholten of Sherwood, Oregon and Mary Stoos of Portland, Oregon. He was preceded in death by two sons, James and Dennis ; a daughter, Patricia; a great-granddaughter; three brothers, Ray, Henry, and Jack.

Services were 10 A.M. Friday, October 17, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marion, conducted by Reverend Keith Birch. Interment was in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
